Questions & answers

Frequently asked questions

We know starting mental health care can raise a lot of questions. We're happy to answer every single one — here are the most common ones we hear.

01 — About Our Practice

Who we are & how we work

Understanding our training, our approach, and what sets psychiatric care apart.

A Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) is an advanced practice registered nurse with specialized graduate-level training in psychiatric and mental health care. PMHNPs are licensed to assess, diagnose, and treat mental health conditions — including prescribing and managing psychiatric medications.

Dr. Pierre-Louis holds both PMHNP-BC (Psychiatric Mental Health) and FNP-C (Family Nurse Practitioner) board certifications, along with a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree — representing the highest level of nursing education and clinical expertise.

Yes. Dr. Pierre-Louis is fully licensed to prescribe and manage psychiatric medications. When medication is part of your care plan, she'll explain what it is, why it's being recommended, what to expect, and how you'll be monitored over time.

You'll always be part of the conversation — we never prescribe without your understanding and agreement. If you have concerns about medication, we want to hear them.

Traditional therapy focuses on talk-based treatment, counseling, and behavioral skills. Psychiatric care addresses the medical and clinical side of mental health — including diagnosis, medication management, and psychiatric evaluation.

Dr. Pierre-Louis integrates both approaches where appropriate, but her primary role is as a medical provider. Many patients benefit from seeing both a psychiatrist/PMHNP and a therapist, and we'll help you understand the right combination for your needs.

02 — Getting Started

Your first visit & telehealth

What to expect when you begin care — in person or from home.

Your initial evaluation is a 60–90 minute comprehensive psychiatric assessment. Dr. Pierre-Louis will ask about your current symptoms, personal and family mental health history, medical history, medications, and your goals for treatment.

It's a real conversation — not a form or checklist. You'll leave with a diagnosis (if applicable), a clear explanation of what Dr. Pierre-Louis observed, and a personalized care plan with next steps. Nothing will be a surprise.

Yes. Multiple studies confirm that telehealth psychiatric care is equally effective as in-person treatment for most conditions, including anxiety, depression, ADHD, and PTSD.

Our HIPAA-compliant video platform is simple to use from any smartphone, tablet, or computer — no special software or downloads required. Telehealth is available to all Nevada residents and is covered by most insurance plans at the same rate as in-person visits.

If you've been experiencing any of the following for two weeks or more, a psychiatric evaluation may help:

  • Persistent sadness, hopelessness, or emptiness
  • Anxiety, panic attacks, or constant worry
  • Difficulty concentrating or completing everyday tasks
  • Dramatic mood swings that affect relationships or work
  • Trauma responses, flashbacks, or nightmares
  • Trouble with substances or compulsive behaviors
  • Any mental health symptoms affecting your daily life

If you're not sure, take our free wellness quiz at divinesoulmentalhealth.com — it's anonymous and takes about 2 minutes. Or simply call us and we'll have an honest conversation about whether we're the right fit.

03 — Safety & Coverage

Crisis, insurance & next steps

What to do in a crisis and how your insurance benefits apply.

If you are in immediate danger of harming yourself or others, call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room immediately.

You can also call or text 988 anytime to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline — free, confidential, and available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

For urgent (non-emergency) concerns, call us at (702) 843-5015 and we will do everything we can to see you as quickly as possible.

Most major insurance plans cover psychiatric evaluation, follow-up appointments, and medication management. Coverage depends on your specific plan, deductible, and copay structure.

Our team will verify your benefits before your first appointment — at no charge to you. We accept Medicare, Medicaid, Anthem BCBS (Carelon Behavioral), UHC/Optum BH, Aetna, Cigna, Humana, Molina Health, HPN/SHL, Silver Summit, Alignment Health, Intermountain/P3, and more. Self-pay patients are always welcome.
