Substance Use

Recovery is possible.
You are not your addiction.

Substance use disorders are medical conditions — treatable, not shameful. Dr. Pierre-Louis offers compassionate, evidence-based support for recovery and lasting wellness.

Understanding the condition

What is substance use disorder?

Substance use disorder (SUD) is a medical condition in which a person's use of alcohol, drugs, or other substances leads to significant impairment or distress. It's not a moral failing or a lack of willpower — it is a complex condition involving changes in brain chemistry, behavior, and often underlying mental health factors.

Substance use disorders exist on a spectrum, from mild to severe, and can involve alcohol, opioids, stimulants, cannabis, benzodiazepines, or other substances. Dual diagnosis — the co-occurrence of substance use disorder and a mental health condition such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, or ADHD — is extremely common and often the root of why someone began using substances in the first place.

At Divine Soul, we treat the whole person — addressing both the substance use and the underlying mental health factors that contribute to it. Judgment has no place here.

Important to know
  • It's a medical condition
Brain chemistry changes — not a personal failure or character flaw.
  • Recovery is achievable
With the right support, millions of people achieve and sustain recovery.
  • Co-occurring conditions are common
Most people with SUD also have anxiety, depression, PTSD, or ADHD — treating both is key.
  • You don't have to be "ready to stop"
We meet you where you are. Harm reduction is a valid, evidence-based approach.

Signs & symptoms

Common signs of substance use disorder

These signs can vary based on the substance and the individual. If several of these resonate, a comprehensive evaluation can help you understand what's going on.

  • Using substances in larger amounts or for longer than intended
  • Repeated unsuccessful attempts to cut down or stop
  • Spending significant time obtaining, using, or recovering from substance use
  • Strong cravings or urges to use the substance
  • Continued use despite negative consequences in relationships or work
  • Giving up important activities or responsibilities because of substance use
  • Using in situations where it's physically dangerous (driving, operating machinery)
  • Developing tolerance or experiencing withdrawal symptoms when stopping
Our approach

How Dr. Pierre-Louis approaches it

Substance use treatment at Divine Soul begins with a compassionate, non-judgmental evaluation. Dr. Pierre-Louis assesses both the substance use patterns and the co-occurring mental health conditions that are almost always part of the picture.

Treatment may include medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for certain substance use disorders, psychiatric medication for underlying depression, anxiety, PTSD, or ADHD, and psychoeducation about the nature of addiction and recovery.

Dr. Pierre-Louis works collaboratively with addiction counselors, therapists, and support programs to provide comprehensive, coordinated care — because recovery works best when the whole team is aligned.

Alcohol Use Disorder

One of the most common SUDs — ranging from binge drinking to severe alcohol dependence. Highly treatable with medication and behavioral support.

Opioid Use Disorder

Including prescription opioids and heroin. Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) is an evidence-based, FDA-approved approach that significantly improves outcomes.

Stimulant & Other SUDs

Cocaine, methamphetamine, cannabis, benzodiazepines, and other substances. Each requires a tailored approach addressing both the SUD and any co-occurring conditions.

Dual Diagnosis

SUD + anxiety, depression, PTSD, or ADHD occurring together. Treating both simultaneously produces dramatically better outcomes than treating them separately.

People in Recovery

Already in recovery but struggling with mental health? We support people at all stages — including those seeking ongoing psychiatric care to sustain their recovery.

Families & Loved Ones

Watching someone you love struggle with addiction is painful. We can help you understand SUD, set healthy boundaries, and access resources for support.

Treatment process

What treatment looks like at Divine Soul

Our approach is structured, compassionate, and always tailored to where you are in your journey.

01
Non-judgmental evaluation

We start by listening — understanding your substance use history, mental health history, triggers, life circumstances, and what you want from treatment. No shame, no lectures.

02
Dual-diagnosis treatment plan

Addressing both the substance use and the underlying mental health conditions driving it — simultaneously. This is more effective than treating them separately.

03
Ongoing support & relapse prevention

Regular monitoring, medication adjustments when needed, and coordination with your broader support network — therapists, sponsors, family — to sustain lasting recovery.

Common questions

Have more questions? Call us at (702) 843-5015 or request a free consultation.

Yes. Dr. Pierre-Louis meets you where you are. Harm reduction is a valid and evidence-based approach, and any step toward better health is worth supporting. You do not have to be ready for full abstinence to deserve care — coming in is already a meaningful step, and we'll work with you from there.
Dual diagnosis (also called co-occurring disorders) means having both a substance use disorder and a mental health condition at the same time. This is very common — in fact, the majority of people with substance use disorders also have a co-occurring mental health condition such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, or ADHD. A comprehensive evaluation can determine whether this applies to you. Treating both together produces significantly better outcomes.
Yes. Dr. Pierre-Louis can prescribe medication-assisted treatment (MAT) when clinically appropriate — such as medications for opioid use disorder or alcohol use disorder. MAT is an evidence-based, FDA-approved treatment approach that significantly improves recovery outcomes. She will discuss all medication options with you openly and only prescribe with your full understanding and agreement.
